At the time of the 1861 England Census Thomas Simmons, age 23, born in Lewes Sussex, unmarried, under gardener, was lodging in Ades, Chailey Sussex.

At the time of the 1871 England Census Thomas Simmons, age 33, born in Lewes Sussex, gardener, and wife Jane, age 39, born in Heathfield Sussex, were living in Village, Newick Sussex. With them was son Thomas (3) of Ticehurst.

At the time of the 1881 England Census Thomas Simmons, age 44, born in Lewes Sussex, gardener, and [2nd] wife Elizabeth, age 35, born in Barcombe Sussex, were living at 68 Hanover Terrace, Brighton Sussex.
