In 1841, Matthw. Smitham (25), copper miner, and wife Jane (20), were living in Fore St., Camborne. Present were sons Willm. (3), John (1). [Matthew's parents-in-law were living nextdoor.]

In 1851, Matthew Smitheram (36) of Camborne, blind, was a copper miner, in receipt of alms, parish relief, widower, was living in Highway, Illogan. Present were children (born in Camborne): William (12), cart driver, Sarah (9), scholar, John (6), scholar, Emily (3), sister Susan Smitheram (24) of Camborne, housekeeper, niece Jane Smitheram (18) of Camborne, copper ore dresser, nephew Edwd. Smitheram (11) of Camborne, copper ore dresser.

In 1861, Matthew Smithram (45) of Camborne, blind for 26 years, traveller, and [2nd] wife Mary (28) of Illogan, tailoress, were lodging in Fore St. East Side Lodging House, Camborne. Present were children: Sarah Jane (18) of Camborne, tin mine girl, Emily (14) of Camborne, tin mine girl, Caroline (5) of Illogan, leader of the father, Mary (4) of Illogan.

Matthew married Jenefer (Jane) HOCKIN, daughter of Simon HOCKING and Sarah ("Sally") ODGERS, on 23 Apr 1838 in Camborne, Cornwall 1. (Jenefer (Jane) HOCKIN was christened on 19 Apr 1817 in Camborne, Cornwall 5 and died in 1849 in Redruth District, Cornwall 6.)
