"OBITUARY Iron River Reporter April 25 1963 "Rites For C. Perkins, 77, Saturday At 2"
Funeral services for Chester C. Perkins, 77, of Iron River, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal church. The Rev. Fr. Clarence Putnam will officiate with the Rev. Fr. Lewin Shaw of Eagle River reading the Psalm and Lesson.
Mr. Perkins passed away unexpectedly early yesterday morning at the Eagle River Memorial hospital. He had been hospitalized for two weeks after taking ill suddenly on a trip to Rhinelander.
He was born Nov. 10, 1885 at Central Mine, Houghton county, and moved to Iron Mountain at the age of four with his parents, where he attended the area schools.
His early employment as a young man was as a diamond driller for Cole and McDonald. He came to Iron River in 1913 where he owned and operated a grocery store and meat market on Genesee street, later moving his own market building to Adams street.
Selling his market in 1944, he found employment with the Curtis Candy Company as a local representative. He retired nine years ago.
The deceased was a member of St. John's Episcopal church of Iron River and served as warden of the Vestry for several years.
He was a life member of the Masonic lodge F. & A. M. 437 and the consistory.
His widow Minnie (Floyd) whom he married in 1911 survives, along with an adopted niece and nephew, Mrs. Stewart (Margaret) Morey of Syracuse, N.Y. and Floyd Braun of Marion, Indiana.
In addition, one sister Mrs. Francis Berryman of Dodgeville, Wis., one brother George of Dodgeville and three grandchildren also survive...."
