Vcte Joscelin II DE MELUN

  • Died: 1157

   General Notes:

Different sources have different ancestries for Joscelin (Josselin) II de Melun. Etienne Pattou acknowledges this by showing two.. (1) son of Gilles de Chailly, Vicomte de Melun, and (2) son of Ursion II de Melun. Others have Joscelin as the son of Jean de Melun and Dame de Chartrette and, according to such sources, Jean de Melun is listed as the son of Ursion II de Melun. Ursion II is usually shown to have been the son of Manassès de Melun (son of Ursion I de Melun) and Marguerite de Montlhéry - daughter of Milon I "le Grand" de Montlhéry and Litause d'Eu. However, according to The Foundation for Medieval Genealogy (Parish Region Nobility), Marguerite de Montlhéry married Manassès de Sens, son of Guerin de Sens, and among their children, no Ursion II de Melun is listed.

As such, I've decided to follow the ancestral line through Gilles de Chailly, son of Adam de Chailly who married an heiress de Melun. Note that two of Joscelin's brothers were named Gilles and Adam, and one of Josceline's sons was named Adam.

   Marriage Information:

Joscelin married Alpaïs DE MAROLLES Dame de Blandy, daughter of Guy DE MAROLLES seigneur de Courtry and Elisabeth DE NANGIS. (Alpaïs DE MAROLLES Dame de Blandy was born about 1135.)
